Oromia, the birthplace of coffee, produces most Ethiopian coffees. The Ethiopian people love coffee and celebrate its special place in their culture with coffee ceremonies.
These coffees thrive in a region known for its unique native vegetation. The Hawisa Cooperative is surrounded by nutrient-rich volcanic soil in a semi-forested area, ideal for shade-grown coffees. Within the highlands of Oromia, elevations reach over 5,000 feet, temperatures are moderate, and there is ample rainfall (50-80 inches per year). All of these natural conditions provide the foundation for extraordinary coffee beans.
The Hawisa Co-op has 235 members and recently earned a bronze medal for its sustainable agronomy practices. Hawisa is also known for creative processing methods that result in a sweeter, fruitier cup. Join us in celebrating this extraordinary coffee and enjoy its natural sweetness, fruity notes and velvety smooth finish.
